Runner-up for the Historical Book Award at Rencontres d’Arles 2009
Selected by Martin Parr as one of the ten best books of 2009

A curious selection of Kodachrome slides taken by amateur photographers in post-war United States. The saturating properties of the long discontinued Kodachrome film tints this account of American prosperity with surreal colours giving the superficially happy scenes  a somewhat sickly overindulged look.

The images are framed in their original black surrounds, creating a claustrophobic viewing experience reminiscent of a home slide show. Some slides are upside down or even missing, blinding the viewer with a bright white light from the projector’s 300W bulb.
