Mues Design

The catalogue documents Cuban artist Ana Mendieta’s UK debut retrospective at the Hayward Gallery London. Feminist art meets body art meets interventions in the natural environment meets spiritual practices. Ana’s prolific art has influenced many artists working today, despite being frequently overlooked and marginalised by the mainstream.

A bespoke typeface was designed for the show and book. A grotesque monospace, all caps, using rounded and right-angled letter forms. In this way, the typeface reflects the two sides of Mendieta’s work: her feminine themes as well as the masculine tones in her work. Throughout there is a deliberate spirituality, a deconstruction of gender and an uncompromising commentary on racism and discrimination.
